The Sale Leaseback

aircraft financing information

The Aircraft sale-leaseback, it is a transaction wherein the owner sells the Aircraft and then leases it back from the buyer (usually a financial institution).

The purpose of the leaseback is to free up the original owner's capital while allowing the owner to retain possession and use of the Aircraft.

Benefits of a Sale Leaseback

  1. Takes a non-performing depreciating asset off of the Balance Sheet
  2. Clears up any financing obligations for that Aircraft which improves the bottom-line
  3. Adds Cash to the Balance Sheet for increased business expansion or satisfy debt service
  4. Allows you to maintain existing use of the Aircraft usually at a smaller monthly payment than financing the existing note
  5. The new lease obligation is now an Expense and NOT a Liability
